My Mom

My mom is my beacon of inspiration.

Dr. Anne Gershon was a lead investigator in developing the chicken pox vaccine. As just one of five women in her medical school class, Mom was part of a generation that punched the initial cracks in an all-too-thick glass ceiling.

I've been thinking of my mom's achievements a lot lately. Because March is Women's History Month and, just this last Thursday, we celebrated International Women's Day.

But a single day or a month is insufficient; every day, women across the globe struggle for respect, equality, and freedom from oppression.

My mom raised me to know without question that women are smart, capable, strong, and inspiring. And her accomplishments always cast relief on the importance of our continued march towards equality.

I am running for Congress because the people of Long Island deserve a leader who will work every single day to ensure that women's rights are protected and expanded. Those might not be Lee Zeldin and Donald Trump's priorities, but they sure as hell are mine.
