Cashing in on inaction

This Friday, Lee Zeldin should be working to protect Americans from gun violence. Instead, he is blaming Democrats for the problem, and will be hanging out with his friends fundraising.

Look who Lee's bringing to NY-1 this Friday:

Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Lindsey Graham, Ronna McDaniel, Wilbur Ross, Steve Mnuchin, and Jared Kushner.

Less than one week after the president failed to respond with compassion or action to the shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Lee Zeldin is welcoming him to our district to fundraise. Remember, this is the same Zeldin who also likes to fundraise with Sebastian Gorka and Steve Bannon. Now it's Trump senior and junior, along with Jared and others.

Neither the president nor Zeldin has called for the moderate, reasonable steps we need to curb gun violence. It starts with mandatory background checks, which 97% of Americans and 97% of American gun owners support. The consensus is clear.

So why have Zeldin, Trump, and our elected officials in Washington done nothing about it? Even Peter King is demanding action! Why haven't they voted to enact the will of the vast majority of Americans?

Because Zeldin and Trump will be taking checks – as large as $250,000 – from out of touch big wigs.

This isn't new for Zeldin. Almost 50% of Zeldin's fundraising this year has come from PACs, including from the insurance, gas and oil, and real estate industries. And don't forget the NRA, which supports Zeldin more than any representative in the New York congressional delegation.

Big money is corrupting our political process. It's keeping our elected representatives from doing their jobs. And Zeldin is the poster child for that issue - enriching himself while our children and families worry about addressing the gun violence in our communities.

We need government that represents us. That's why I'm running a grassroots campaign without taking a cent from corporate PACs, and why I could use your support.

Please chip in to tell Zeldin, Trump and their cronies that the safety and well-being of Long Islanders is not for sale.
