Celebrating Workers and Unions

This Labor Day I am thinking about the importance of a job.

A job gives us a sense of empowerment, of bettering our lives. It also instills a sense of service and responsibility, to our employer, our colleagues, and our community.

Across our district, workers, and the unions that fight for their rights, make us safe, strong, and innovative. They wake up every day striving to work hard and make a better life for their families. They are the embodiment of America.

Today, between the BBQ's and beaches, let's remember all we have because of workers and unions: public schools that help our children reach their greatest potential, the highways, roads, bridges, energy and water systems that keep our community moving, and the five-day work week and employer-paid healthcare, to name a few successes.

America was built by workers and unions. Let's share our thanks and make sure we keep workers and unions strong.

For 25 years, I have been a common-sense businessman — not a career politician — so I look at things differently. I know about fixing dysfunction. It starts with hard work, a commitment to results, and perseverance — not scoring cheap political points. We can work together to provide opportunity and create an economy that works for all of us.
