He missed another opportunity

Last night, I patiently tuned into the State of the Union Address. During the course of the last few weeks — I've been wondering what, if anything, Trump would have to say for himself in his annual address to Congress and the nation.

Here are my takeaways:

  1. Hyper-partisanship, fueled by Trump, is at an all-time high. The State of the Union, like the president himself, is supposed to unite our country — not to further divide it. Refusing to shake Nancy Pelosi's hand? It's outrageous.

  2. Trump loves to lie. His comments on healthcare are as despicable as Lee Zeldin's. Trumpcare, which Zeldin supports and voted for, does not protect patients with pre-existing conditions but takes it away. He takes credit for the success and goals of the same programs his policies rip apart.

  3. Economic growth is nowhere near record levels. While some prosper today, wage growth for many is non-existent and people cannot afford their cost of living. Income inequality in America is peaking, while the majority of Americans continue to fall behind.

This president has never missed an opportunity to goad half the country to turbocharge the other. But his reliance on mistruth and outright lies is unprecedented in America. And when the deception is not called out, Trump gets to paint the illusion of success.

President Trump and Lee Zeldin's refusal to address the issues that matter most to the American people in a truthful, straightforward way continues to plague our democracy. In November, we must be done with Trump and done with his eager enablers, like Lee Zeldin.

Chip in today and let's send them packing.
