Why Lee Zeldin raised taxes on middle-class families

I want to give you an update on Lee Zeldin and his responsibility for higher taxes on Long Island families.

Middle-class homeowners in Suffolk County have suffered, paying higher taxes since Lee Zeldin's complicity with the 2017 Republican tax plan. In the new tax bill, Republicans voted to reduce the amount of state and local taxes (SALT) everyday Americans can write off as part of their yearly deductions.

In our district, the average deduction before the Republican tax bill was $18,000; now, that deduction is capped at only $10,000. The average Long Island homeowner is on the hook for $8,000 more per year in taxable income, and Lee Zeldin did nothing to block it. Worse yet, this past December, Zeldin had a chance to make things right and join in a bipartisan bill to unwind the cap, but he voted no.

Zeldin's logic behind all of this? He said it's more important to protect tax cuts for the wealthy in the highest bracket than to provide middle class tax relief. That is saying protecting married couples earning over $500,000 is more important than relief for those in the $100,000-300,000 range.

Long Island is already too expensive for too many families. It's already too hard to raise a family here. And yet Lee Zeldin opposes giving our families relief.

We need to show Zeldin how wrong he is. I am going to defeat Lee Zeldin in November, but to do that, I need your help.
