Donald Trump's lack of leadership during Coronavirus pandemic

After weeks of crisis, a slow response, and continued frustrations felt by all of us, it would be great to see the President of the United States stand tall, bring Americans together, and mobilize this great country to collective action.

But not Donald Trump.

At a time when we need leadership, he is shrinking. He blames others. He preens. He misleads. He insults. He dismisses. He claims expertise he doesn't have. He congratulates himself for things that he didn't do and steals the credit that others deserve. Everything at this time must be about pulling our country together and leading us through this crisis. Donald Trump simply doesn't get this.

Just a few examples:

Equally appalling, his defenders, like Rep. Lee Zeldin, stroke his ego and echo his lies. They blame others for Trump's mistakes. Zeldin is deflecting blame everywhere but excusing the one guy who deserves it: Donald Trump. Zeldin blames impeachment, Nancy Pelosi and others for Trump's failures to secure supplies of testing in advance, to prepare our hospitals with PPE, and to contain the virus spread before all-out mitigation became the only remedy.

Leadership counts. In the White House and in Congress. That is why I am running to represent Long Island the way we deserve.

For 25 years, I have been a common-sense businessman — not a career politician — so I look at things differently. I know about fixing dysfunction. It starts with hard work, a commitment to results, and perseverance — not scoring cheap political points. We can work together to provide opportunity and create an economy that works for all of us.
