Let the postal service die? Really?

Hard as it may be to fathom, Donald Trump seems determined to let the US Postal Service run out of money.

The postal service is an American institution, a model for the rest of the world, and a critical backbone for our economy. During this coronavirus pandemic, it's become more apparent than ever how much we rely on critical infrastructure like the postal service.

Oh, and not for nothing, but it's also our nation's second-largest civilian employer, with 640,000 Americans earning strong middle-class wages throughout every community in our nation.

But Donald Trump has it in for the postal service. Apparently, this has something to do with his hatred of the Washington Post, its owner Jeff Bezos, and Amazon's use of the USPS for last-mile delivery in rural places and elsewhere.

No one ever said Donald Trump's vendettas make any sense.

So, where's Rep. Lee Zeldin in all this? Well, he gives lip service to protecting the postal service. He tweets. He sends press releases. But is he using his status as "the newest, most pugnacious member of Trump's squad" to actually do something to protect the postal service?

Of course not.

We need a Congressman who isn't afraid to speak truth to power. Someone who is prepared to stand up for what's right — even to his friends, even to the President.

If Lee Zeldin won't even stand up for the postal service, let's send him into retirement. Chip in $15 right now.

Let's save the postal service before it's too late.
